Future Mrs. Bowen

Last Saturday (July 24th) Bart asked me to marry him! I still can't stop smiling. I came home from work to him making me a delicious dinner which we ate a First Dam. As we were sitting on the blanket just hanging out he asked me :) I couldn't have asked for a better day! My ring is beautiful, Bart picked it out all by himself and I am very impressed!

No we have not set a date yet, but it won't be until next Spring because we want to wait until Bart is finished with school and is established somewhat in a job and I don't want to get married during a busy semester of school so we just plan on waiting...which is just fine with me because the thought of marriage still freaks me out a little bit :)

I can't wait to spend forever with him though, he is everything I have always wanted and he has such great qualities that I love. We work well together and balance each other out perfectly. I really am so happy I found him. I am glad he loves me despite the fact that I can't cook, I am not head over heels in love with the Aggies, I don't like to talk about my feelings, and the fact that I look like I got struck by lightning after waking up in the morning. He is the love of my life and I am so happy!

Here some pictures of us from the very beginning until now....:)

I am so excited to marry:

Beautiful People and Phobias

So maybe I am not the only one with this problem but when a really beautiful person comes into my work,(and by person I mean guy/man) I get kind of intimidated. (and by kind of I mean I do.) I don't know what it is because it's not like these super hot guys mean anything to me (nor do I want them to) but when one comes in I can't relax. The whole time I am doing the hair cut I have absolutely nothing to say, which doesn't happen very often, and I am kinda nervous the whole time. (again, "kinda" means I definitely am.)  Maybe it is because I don't fall into the "Beautiful People" category and that is why I have such a hard time. Whatever the reason I feel stupid because I know these people are no better than I am or anyone else I cut hair for but for some reason I get all anxious and self conscious....does my hair look okay?

I would now like to take a minute and talk about an issue that apparently many have a problem with. I would say it's not you, it's me, but it's not me at all. It is a little thing I like to call MERGING. Apparently people don't quite know how to approach this because as I was stuck in traffic for TWO HOURS Saturday I had the opportunity to deal with idiots the entire time that would drive to the end of the lane that was closing and then scootch their way in at the very front of the line. I cant explain to you in words how much I wanted those cars to spontaneously combust right in front of my eyes with the drivers very much still inside. If you notice that the lane you are not currently in is at a standstill and that all of the cars in front of you are merging into said slow lane then maybe that is a good indication to you that you should be trying to do the same thing because I promise these drivers ahead of you are not moving into this crowded lane just for the heck of it. We all hate construction and we all have places to be so stop being a little %$@#, be polite, and merge with everyone else.

So I have been reading this book on anxiety and phobias (long story for another time) and I am here to say, Hi, my name is Megan, and I have a phobia of dogs. (Dog-a-phobe?) I am proud to announce my hatred slash fear of dogs is legit and can be traced back to my childhood and by avoiding dogs I am feeding into my phobia and making it worse.....the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem...right?   (and yes, I still hate your dog)

There is Beauty All Around

I wish I was back here:

Bart and I had such a good time in Oregon with his brother and mom! We went through so many changes in scenery it was crazy. I really saw God's hand these past few weeks.

From the Southern Utah Red Rocks

To beautiful Crater Lake, OR

To the Redwood Forest in California

To the rocky beaches of Oregon

And the Pacific ocean..

I loved being surrounded by all of these beautiful places, it really made me appreciate the country I live in.

St Geezy && Vegas

4th of July I got to take my first real relaxing summer vacation! Bart and I went to visit my grandma in St George.

While there we got to go see Tarzan at the TUACAHN THEATER. It is beautiful there I LOVED it.

Later that week we went to Las Vegas to hang out...why not right?!

While in Vegas we saw..
  • 63 women in Heels
  • 35 boys wearing Affliciton T-Shirts
  • 3 Preachers trying to save our souls
  • A girl in a bikini and a guy in his boxers
  • Two people dressed up as Avatars (Which was awesome)
  • 9 couples where the girl was taller than the guy
  • People impersonating Elvis, Jack Sparrow, Wonder Woman, Michael Jackson & Cat Woman, Woody, Shrek
  • 4 Boys carrying around a 12 pack of beer on their shoulder
  • Robot Dancers
  • People in crutches, wheelchairs, and canes
  • Some Cougars on the prowl
...among other things..

We also went on some hikes in Snow Canyon.

The best part of the Canyon was the pamphlet that was handed out to us before we were able to go in. It said..(and yes this is word for word)

"Welcome to Snow Canyon where we have dedicated 90,000 acres of land for the desert tortoise. If you see this rare animal in the road please do the following.
  1. Notice the direction of travel
  2. Approach the turtle CAREFULLY (because it may run away from you?)
  3. Pick up turtle on the sides making sure to not tilt or turn it
  4. Place the turtle no more than 100 ft from the road in the direction it was traveling
  5. Report your findings with a Ranger ASAP
...I am happy to see that turtle is getting such VIP service....

It is such a beautiful place it was so nice to be surrounded by it for a few days!

Babies

As I have been out and about these past few weeks something has been really bothering me...maybe if I write it down it will help......

What has been bothering me is this: Parents who take their children to places where it is clear children aren't welcome and don't realize no one really likes their kids except themselves.

Let me give you a few real examples...

While in the movie Grown Ups (rated PG-13) there was a couple who decided to bring their 2 year old to this movie. Not only was this movie clearly not for kids, it was also 920 at night when kids SHOULD be sleeping. But there he was, laughing hysterically every time the audience (consisting of adults) laughed. And I am not talking about a little giggle here and there I mean EVERY TIME someone laughed he yelled at the top of his lungs trying to copy everyone else. To make matters worse his parents just sat there thinking it was adorable. I am here to tell you it wasn't. Only you ( the parent of the child) think your kid is adorable when it comes to obnoxious situations like this..

Another example was when Bart and I went to Tuacahn Theater in St George to watch their rendition of Tarzan. The play started at 8:30 and just as it was starting a couple came in who unfortunately had seats right next to ours. This particular couple brought their baby with them to this play...this baby was probably like 6 months old and for some reason these parents thought it would be a good idea to bring him to a 3 hour play that was held outside and that was going to have lots of loud music and singing. This baby fussed the ENTIRE time. Just like in the movie I mentioned before we were really annoyed except even more so because this time around our tickets costs more than $40 and the program specifically stated no children under the age of 3 should attend this performance. Apparently this young couple didn't get the message because throughout the show he was fussing or sucking or crying or chewing on something and we got to hear the whole thing. It really bothers me when parents do this. YOU decided to have a child. I didn't, and I don't want to have to deal with having to listen to it. Once again, call a damn babysitter.

If you have a baby/toddler do not think you are the exception to the rule because you aren't. If you are taking your kids to a place that is meant to stay quiet then you are bothering everyone else around you. I am all for little kids running around screaming and laughing in places where it is appropriate but there are some places where you just shouldn't take them....no matter how cute you think they are.... :)
