The 7 Year Summer Itch

I realized the other day that this will be Bart and I's 7th summer together. SEVEN! That seems like a big number to me. We met the Summer of 2009, were engaged Summer 2010 and married Summer 2011. Bart had his first teacher summer in 2012 and I got my job. Summer 2013 was spent enjoying life. Summer 2014 I was super pregnant and here we are: Summer 2015. Crazy how much can happen over a 7 year time frame isn't it??

So here are a few (several) pics to take you down memory lane with me

Summer 2009
No photos. We had just met and he was still trying to win me over

Summer 2010
This summer was awesome. We were both students, but not taking any summer classes. Hanging out and enjoying Cache Valley. This was also the summer we got engaged (July 24) so we were pretty much inseparable

we took our first major road trip to Oregon together and learned we DID like each other enough to spend a week with no breaks

Summer 2011
This summer started off awesome because not only did Bart graduate from USU- but we got married! So we spent our honeymoon in San Diego and the rest of the summer was spent mostly indoors *cough cough*
this was technically Spring Break of 2011- but I couldn't resist sharing this cute pic
had to show this cute pic of Bart playing Uncle

on our honeymoon

Summer 2012
This was the year we started running so the summer was filled with some of our first races. We also took an amazing trip to Angel's Camp CA and San Fransisco. It's one of my favorite vacations we have taken

one of my all-time fav pics

the race that started it all...

we also ate lots of fabulous food

and had LOTS of snowcones

Summer 2013
This summer was filled with LOTS of running. We also went to Moab and Jackson Hole. This was the first summer I spent on my Hashimotos diet so I was secretly craving candy in every pic...

Moab hike

Jackson Hole: Typical Bart

our second Dirty Dash

Nebo Half!

Big Cottonwood Half

Summer 2014
I was 7-9 months pregnant and NOT interested in photos. We did start the summer off with my graduation from the University of Utah- so that was about the only photo op of the year

this pic right here sums up why I didn't take very many haha! yay for summer heat/bloating

Summer 2015
This summer has only just begun but I can't wait! Mckenzie is at such a fun stage right now we are already having a blast with her.

I hope you enjoyed a little blast from the past. I know I loved putting this together- it was so fun to look through old pics and remember all the fun we have had in the past 7 years. Summers look much different compared to our care-free college days- but I wouldn't trade them for anything.

Throwback Thursday: 6 cups of flour

6 Cups of Flour
12-21-11

Have I ever mentioned how much I hate cooking? How bad I am at it? I know a lot of people say that but seriously, I am and it's getting really annoying.

I tried to make Lemon Bars today and they taste horrible. I then decided to make Snickerdoodles because I remember those being pretty tasty and I have never made them before. Fun idea right?!?!? WRONG.

First of all, they should have a warning label put on recipes that say in nice bold letters IF YOU MAKE THIS WITH THE AMOUNTS INDICATED BELOW, YOU WILL BE MAKING FOUR THOUSAND COOKIES.

Seriously?!?! Who needs this many cookies? This recipe could feed the whole city of Murray and lets be honest, not that many people like these cookies anyway. This was an entry in a work recipe book I got from my mom and I want to hunt this lady down and shove snickerdoodles down her throat.  I didn't realize until I looked at the instructions and it is telling me to put in 6 CUPS of flour that this was a large recipe. Now I realize that was my bad for not noticing before I was midway through my little project from hell but I'm not good at this remember?

Also, I freaking hate cold butter. HATE it.Hate hate hate, double hate, LOATHE ENTIRELY.  I had to use my hands pioneer style to mix the butter and sugar because my big fancy KitchenAid couldn't do it so of course I got butter and sugar all over my freshly cleaned floor. (That's another reason why I hate cooking, I make such a big mess) So as I am mixing in those 6 pounds of flour I am kicking myself and looking over at the clock to see if I am even going to have time to finish all of this before I have to be to work at 3.

Let's just say it will be pushing it, and there may or may not be some cookie dough in my freezer by the end of this. Luckily each batch just cooks for 10 minutes but still, there are like a thousand batches to cook soo.....time adds up. This is really making me hate snickerdoodles, I will probably never want to eat them again. Did you know you have to scoop up the extremely sticky dough into a ball and then roll it around in cinnamon sugar? Yeah, not as easy as it sounds, I finally got my system down but the whole time I was doing it all I was thinking about was this blog post and how much I hate cooking. As we speak I am waiting for cookies to finish and apparently 10 minutes is not long enough.

Dear Bart,

I apologize that the laundry is laid out all over our bed not folded and the towels are chillin in the dryer. I was too busy attempting to entertain myself and doing the worst thing I probably could do with my morning off. I wrote this blog post for you because lets be honest, I wasn't about to text you all of this and by the time I get home from work tonight I will probably be over it. Also, will you please eat about 40 cookies tonight so we have some space in our fridge for oh, i don't know, milk? Thanks pookie bear.

Love, Megan.

Throwback Thursday: Funny &%$# Bart Says

These posts are always a fan favorite. Too bad Bart has stopped saying funny things. Here's a throwback to October 2012 when Bart was still funny :)

More S%$@ Bart Says

B- It's so hot in this house
M- No it's not.
B- Well Megan, you don't have to sit by you so you wouldn't understand

B- What, I have to watch a freakin infomercial on Ryan Lotche instead of sand volleyball?

M- Why do I even open my mouth?
B- I don't know, you know I don't listen.

M- Kristen Stweart cheated on Robert Pattinson and it's really sad..
B- ....Was it with Jacob?

B- The problem is you're comparing Grey's Anatomy to football.

B- (Playing -and losing- the science games at the State Fair) I feel like I used to play these games in High School and win...Am I just too intelligent now?

B- My boy is going to have huge cheeks. People are going to ask, "Hey, did your son get stung by a bee?" and I'm like "no, that's just his face"

B- My name is Bart, I have great calves, and I'm a Mormon

Throwback Thursday: Judging Skinny

Pardon the language.....

Judging Skinny
May, 2013

Day 22,  Rant about something. Get up on your soapbox and tell us how you really feel.

For those of you have been reading my blog since the beginning, you know that I rant about something pretty often. For some reason, since I moved down to SLC and got married I haven't really had the need.

Today I'm ranting about judgmental people.  I don't want to get too specific about the situations that have led to this post, but basically I'm ranting about this not because it's happening to me, but because it's happening to people around me and I'm there to witness it.

What makes you think you know people you have never met? Do you think that by seeing them every day on TV you know their personalities, their habits and their faults? You don't. You don't know if they're bitchy or the world's sweetest person. You don't know why they have the opinions they do, or their life experiences that have gotten them to where they are today. YOU DON'T KNOW THEM. And since you dont know them, why do you think you can judge them? What in that little brain of yours turns on and says, "I think it's okay to totally judge someone I have never truly met". It's not okay. JUDGING SOMEONE BECAUSE THEY ARE SKINNY IS JUST AS BAD AS JUDGING SOMEONE BECAUSE THEY ARE FAT. Just because someone is skinny doesn't make them bitchy. It doesn't make them selfish or snobby or rude. It doesn't mean they don't want to be your friend. What is so wrong with taking care of your body? What is so wrong with making fitness a priority in your life? What is so wrong with being a size 2? NOTHING. Just like there is nothing wrong with naturally being a size 14. You shouldn't judge someone just because they are skinny. Don't assume they don't have any problems in their lives. Don't assume they are selfish and must care about themselves more than others. Don't assume that just because they are skinny they look down on everyone else who isn't. You sit there and say I don't like them because they are clique and skinny. WTF?!? Screw you. No one would even listen to someone who said, I don't like you because you're fat and annoying. NO ONE SAYS THAT. So why is it okay to say something like that about a skinny person? It's not.

All growing up people judged me because I was small, confident and had spiky hair. I must not like you because my hair is bad ass. Makes sense right??? No. It doesn't. Just because I had colorful spiky hair doesn't mean I wasn't a "good girl" or didn't have a testimony at church...but that is what people assumed. I spent most of my life not caring about those people because if you judge me before you get to know me than I don't want you in my life anyway. At this point in my life I have moved past all that (mostly because I'm not in very many social situations where I meet new people) so luckily I don't have to deal with that anymore. But that's why this bothers me so much, because I've been there...and I thought women grew out of it...but apparently they don't.

Bottom line? GET OVER YOURSELF. If you feel the need to sit around and talk about people you don't even know I feel sorry for you. I"m sorry your life is so devoid of anything that matters that you have to fill it with shit that doesn't.

Throwback Thursday: Beautiful People & Phobias

Beautiful People and Phobias
July 20, 2010

So maybe I am not the only one with this problem but when a really beautiful person comes into my work,(and by person I mean guy/man) I get kind of intimidated. (and by kind of I mean I do.) I don't know what it is because it's not like these super hot guys mean anything to me (nor do I want them to) but when one comes in I can't relax. The whole time I am doing the hair cut I have absolutely nothing to say, which doesn't happen very often, and I am kinda nervous the whole time. (again, "kinda" means I definitely am.)  Maybe it is because I don't fall into the "Beautiful People" category and that is why I have such a hard time. Whatever the reason I feel stupid because I know these people are no better than I am or anyone else I cut hair for but for some reason I get all anxious and self conscious....does my hair look okay?

I would now like to take a minute and talk about an issue that apparently many have a problem with. I would say it's not you, it's me, but it's not me at all. It is a little thing I like to call MERGING. Apparently people don't quite know how to approach this because as I was stuck in traffic for TWO HOURS Saturday I had the opportunity to deal with idiots the entire time that would drive to the end of the lane that was closing and then scootch their way in at the very front of the line. I cant explain to you in words how much I wanted those cars to spontaneously combust right in front of my eyes with the drivers very much still inside. If you notice that the lane you are not currently in is at a standstill and that all of the cars in front of you are merging into said slow lane then maybe that is a good indication to you that you should be trying to do the same thing because I promise these drivers ahead of you are not moving into this crowded lane just for the heck of it. We all hate construction and we all have places to be so stop being a little %$@#, be polite, and merge with everyone else.

So I have been reading this book on anxiety and phobias (long story for another time) and I am here to say, Hi, my name is Megan, and I have a phobia of dogs. (Dog-a-phobe?) I am proud to announce my hatred slash fear of dogs is legit and can be traced back to my childhood and by avoiding dogs I am feeding into my phobia and making it worse.....the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem...right?   (and yes, I still hate your dog)

Throwback Thursday: Sept, 2010

I'm starting a new version of Throwback Thursday here on the blog...I will be re-posting a blog post for all y'all who are sick of hearing about motherhood and my baby (which better be like TWO of you because let's be honest...that's my life now so.... GET OVER IT)

Anywho....this gem is from September 2010 when I was still a student and a hairstylist and my man finally "put a ring on it"....enjoy :)

(here are a few pics from that week too....so cute!! amiright???)

Rules Football & Pedicures

September 25, 2010

Rule #9
Stop bringing your screaming, pouting, sticky, slobbery child into get a hair cut and then complain that we charge the same amount for a 2 year old as we do a 10 year old. Your child makes me risk my fingers because it moves so much. I dont know if I will end up cutting hair or flesh. And no, it can not have a sucker when we are all done if it has been screaming the whole time. I dont award little &%$@s

Rule #15
Do NOT tell me how to do my job. Do NOT tell me how to hold my comb. I have been doing this long enough I promise I know what I am doing and your hair is going to turn out great so stop talking about how everyone else has messed it up because unless that was me, I dont care.

Rule #24
I don't quite understand what you mean when I ask if you want gel and you say "ya, just a little".....so you only want the front half to have gel and the rest to not? Don't get it. If you say you want gel just let me put in the amount you need to make sure you dont leave looking like a fool

Side Note:
I am sorry it only takes me 10 minutes to do a men's cut. No I am not rushing, no I am not just trying to get to the next person. After doing 3208643 of the same hair cut it just doesnt take me that long. (because admit it guys, as much as you like to think you have a unique cut, you dont.) Just be happy you dont have to spend an hour in the salon and that it looks great okay?
...

I hate group projects. I hate over achievers in group projects. I hate people in group projects who make everything 3435 times harder than it has to be. We can get a good grade without having to spend 67 hours on it I promise. Also, no I will not miss another class for this group project. My other classes are important too and just because YOU can't meet at any regular time doesn't mean everyone can cater to your needs. I don't understand why teachers think group projects are a good idea. At least give us a choice so those people who want to do it as a group can and those of us who hate group projects and can do a great job on our own have that option too.

I know I may not survive the day if I write what I am about to write next but I think I will risk it. I am officially sick of football season. I go to 3 games a week if the Aggies have a home game and I am just here to tell you that no one has a body that enjoys sitting in bleachers for 3 hours 3 times a week. I love the Aggies and I love Mt Crest and Bart's team....I just have a love-hate relationship with the sport right now
...

On a side note; I am going to breakfast this morning which is going to be awesome because I never get to go to breakfast. I am also going to the Bridal Fair up on campus later today because, well, I am getting married and havent planned a single thing and I want to win a free ice sculpture. And I also hopefully get to have a pedicure today as well which is amazing in so many ways. It is going to be a fun day!
